Full Scorecard

Australia has secured the Frank Worrell trophy until 2007 with a thumping 9-wicket victory before lunch on the final day of the second Test at Hobart, cruising to the target of 78 runs for only the loss of Matthew Hayden.

The hosts scored at a steady pace throughout the morning, and didn’t lose a wicket until the runs required had been whittled down to single figures – with the makeshift opening pair of Hussey and Hayden continuing their form from the first innings.

Before Hayden clipped a catch to Dwayne Smith when trying to hit the winning runs, the stocky Queenslander had passed the milestone of a thousand runs during the year for the fifth consecutive year. Hayden is the first batsman in the history of the game to achieve such a feat, and it has been a remarkable fight back from the Queenslander who was on the verge of being dropped during the Ashes.

Aside from the soft dismissal of Hayden, Australia achieved the target without any further damage - with Michael Hussey, veteran of two Tests, hitting the winning runs to gift Australia the Frank Worrell trophy with captain Ricky Ponting at the non-strikers end.

The West Australian, filling in for injured state team mate Justin Langer at the top of the Australian order, was awarded man of the match following his memorable first innings maiden century.

Strong performances from both Hussey and Hodge provide Australian selectors with a headache, with Justin Langer likely to be fit for the Adelaide Test. Michael Clarke failed with the bat again in the first dig, and may be dropped to make way for Hussey to move down the batting order whilst Hodge is likely to also be retained.

The third and final Test begins at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
